YouTube Description Metadata
[FREE_REACTION] episode=https://www.crunchyroll.com/watch/GRDKJZ81Y/a-chance-encounter start_at=120 [/FREE_REACTION]
episode
The full Crunchyroll URL of the episode you're reacting to. Copy it directly from your browser's address bar while watching the episode.
start_at
The number of seconds into your YouTube reaction video where the episode actually starts playing. For example, if you have a 2-minute intro before pressing play on the anime, set start_at=120.
Tip: Finding the start_at time
Watch your own reaction video and note the exact second when you press play on the anime episode. That's your start_at value. You can see the timestamp in the YouTube player progress bar.

What is Free Reaction?
Free Reaction is a free Chrome extension that syncs YouTube reaction videos with anime on Crunchyroll. Creators record their reaction (face/voice only, no copyrighted content), and viewers watch both streams in perfect sync.
How do I install it?
Just visit the Chrome Web Store, search for "Free Reactions", and click "Add to Chrome". One click, no account needed.
Do I need a Crunchyroll account?
Yes, viewers need their own Crunchyroll subscription to watch the anime side. The extension simply syncs your existing Crunchyroll playback with the YouTube reaction video.
How does the sync work?
When a viewer opens a YouTube reaction video that has [FREE_REACTION] metadata in the description, the extension detects it and offers to open the corresponding Crunchyroll episode in a side panel. It then syncs playback between the two, including pause, play, and drift correction.
How do creators add metadata?
Creators add a [FREE_REACTION] block to their YouTube video description with the Crunchyroll episode URL and a start_at timestamp (the point in their reaction where the episode begins). The extension reads this automatically.
What platforms are supported?
Currently the extension supports YouTube reaction videos synced with Crunchyroll anime. Support for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and more platforms is on the roadmap.
Is it really 100% free?
Yes, completely free. No accounts, no subscriptions, no tokens, no limits. The extension is open source and community driven.
Is this safe from copyright claims?
Yes. Creators only upload their own reaction (face, voice, commentary) to YouTube β no copyrighted audio or video. The viewer's own Crunchyroll subscription plays the anime. Nothing copyrighted is redistributed.
Can I use this on other browsers?
Currently, Free Reaction is available as a Chrome extension. It also works on Chromium-based browsers like Edge, Brave, and Arc. Firefox support may come in the future.
